School lunches are cooked on the premises by North Yorks Catering Services, whose menus are free from harmful preservatives, additives and colourings. There is also a choice of food for both the main meal and dessert. Parents are welcome to visit school to sample the food. There is a high take-up rate of lunches by the children. Please go to the Link below to see the up-to-date menu plans.
School meals are currently £2.30 per day (£11.50 per week) per child. Payments should be made on the first day of the week, sent in an envelope with the child’s name and amount enclosed written on, or you can pay for the full half term in advance. Cheques should be made payable to Long Preston Endowed Primary School.
School milk: All reception children will receive milk at morning break time. For older children milk is currently 18p per day. Please contact the school office if your child wishes to have milk. Please may we remind you that milk needs to be paid for in advance on the first day of each half term.
Packed lunches should be brought to school in unbreakable containers. Children who bring packed lunches eat in the hall with the other children and are supervised in a similar way.
Please be aware of our "nut aware" policy when making your child's pack lunch.
Children may alternatively go home for lunch but must be escorted to and from school by an adult.
Should any child wish to change from packed lunches to school dinners or vice versa, they may do so after school has received at least two weeks’ notice from parents. (This is an administrative procedure to aid the ordering process and to avoid waste.)
The school is part of the National Fruit and Vegetable Scheme, which offers children from the age of 4 to 7 a free healthy snack each morning. Older children may bring a healthy snack from home if desired. We also encourage children to have a water bottle in the classroom and to take frequent drinks to help keep them hydrated and attentive.
